Virtual horse racing is essentially a random number generator. Similar to traditional horse racing, the shorter the odds the more likely a horse is to win and the longer the odds the less likely a horse is to win.
Betfred, have an excellent graphic that explains exactly how this works:
No. All of the bookmakers featured on BetVirtual.co are licensed and regulated by the UK Gambling Commission. This means they are audited regularly and must comply with government guidelines or risk losing their licenses.
The majority of UK & Irish bookmakers feature virtual horse racing. On BetVirtual.co we only feature the largest, most trustworthy bookmakers. Currently, we feature Betfred, bet365, Boyle Sports, Coral, Ladbrokes and William Hill.
The most famous virtual racecourses in the UK are Portman Park (flat racing), Steepledowns (jumps) and Sprint Valley (sprint racing). However, most bookmakers also offer betting on their own unique virtual horse races. For the full list of virtual racecourses online and offline see our where to bet page.
Historically, Portman Park/Steepledows/Sprint Valley have been bet on from a bookmaker shop. However, in recent years, this it is possible to also bet online. If you view our racecards section, next to each runner is a dropdown called 'Bet' where you can see the available bookmakers.
There are many different providers. Some of the more popular suppliers include - Playtech, Inspired, NSoft, Golden Race, Kiron and BetSys. These suppliers provide the underlying software, then the bookmaker (Betfred, Ladbrokes, Coral, etc) will customise it to match their brand. Portman Park, Steepledowns and Sprint Valley are all operated by SIS - the same company that operates the 49's Lottery.
